When I was in highschool, I had the opportunity to be assigned to help a blind girl get around and such. I loved this opportunity. I learned to read brille. That helped me to overcome my fears of people who had physical disabilities. When I went to college, instead of taking Spanish or French for a foreign language, I took three years of American Sign Language to satisfy my foreign language requirement. This has opened many doors for me. I love walking up to a person in a supermarket who is signed and tell them hello...next we have a full conversation. Today, I work with Autistic children and I find them totally fascinating and awesome. I think many people treat people with learning disabilitie and physical disabilities poorly just becasue they are scared to death of their own inadequacies. My father has an artificial eye and it almost kept him from asking my mom to marry him. When she figured out what the problem was, she told that his artificial eye didn't bother her a bit....she could see fine with two eyes and he looked like he could see fine with one eye! They have been married 20 years now! Who says a disability has to set you back! You are the only one who sets you back!
